The Russian Way of War: Operational Art, 1904-1940

For those interested in the rather dry topic of the evolution of Russian military art prior to World War II, this is an excellent book. This book goes into great detail about the rather convoluted history of the evolution of Deep Battle and related Soviet military doctrines; I doubt that a more detailed and informative account will appear any time soon, if ever. That said, this book is definitely not for the generalist looking for a good book about the conduct of Soviet military operations, etc.
