This is an excellent account of World War I on the Eastern front after the exhausting and destructive battles of 1914-1915. The author's account of the Brusilov Offensive is excellent, by far the most detailed that I have seen. The author also includes numerous quotes from German, Austro-Hungarian, and Russian combatants, as well as anecdotes about/characteristics of some of the leading personalities on all sides. Generally a fascinating and well-written book.

There is much more interesting action in this book than in the author’s last book, about 1915. Generally a fascinating and well-written book.
